March 2013 Newsletter
Letter from Heather
Dear Club Members,
Spring is such a dynamic, creative time of year at Paul Dolan Vineyards. Outside, bright yellow mustard cover crops grow between the vines that are budding out with what will soon become the newest vintage of wine. Meanwhile, in the cool dark of the cellar, our winemaking team is busy blending and bottling vintages from springs past.
This season’s shipment similarly plays with the idea of light and dark, vibrancy and depth. On one end of the spectrum, we have the aromatic and zesty 2011 Sauvignon Blanc, Gold Medal Winner at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition and the perfect companion to the fresh tastes of your spring table.
The 2009 Deep Red is a rich, full-flavored wine redolent of a very specific time and place. Sourced from our Home Ranch in the Ukiah Valley, this small benchland vineyard produces concentrated fruit for the deepest varietal expression, blended together for tastes of red berries accented with cedar and earth.
However you end up enjoying the current selection of wines, we’d love for you to share with us on Facebook or Twitter. Or take a moment to review them in our store. We look forward to hearing from you!
Cheers,
Heather Hudson

Winemaker Bob Swain Speaks from the Cellar
Spring—one vintage begins as previous years come to fruition.
Q: What are you and the winemaking team up to this time of year?
A: We are blending the 2012 whites—Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay—as well as prepping the 2012 Pinot Noirs. We have either bottled or are about to bottle many of the 2012 whites, and it is proving to be a fantastic vintage in terms of quality and volume.
Q: What are some of the early characteristics of the 2012 vintage?
A: The whites have great aromatics and balance, while the reds are some of the darkest wines we have had in years.
Q: What new releases are you especially looking forward to sharing this spring?
A:The 2011 Paul Dolan Cabernet and Zinfandel are elegant rather than aggressive and provide a view of the 2011 vintage when you have the ability to select vineyards, barrels and attentive blending techniques. So approachable now.
